IPScout
Find the public IP address of the machine running your game with one asynchronous Blueprint or C++ call, delivered through an event.
Highlights
All 7 features βIPScout looks up the public (internet-facing) IP address of the machine running your game or editor. It sends a small asynchronous HTTP request to a lookup service, so the game thread never waits, and broadcasts the result through a Blueprint-assignable event.
Create an IPScout object, bind its On IPAddress Received event and call Get My Public IP. The last received address stays available through Get Cached IP. By default the free public ipify service is used; you can point IPScout at any other service, including your own backend, by changing the request URL and the JSON field that holds the address.
Typical uses are showing the host address in a lobby or server browser, filling in connection details for players who host listen servers, logging the public address of dedicated test servers, or sending it to your own matchmaking or telemetry backend.
IPScout is part of the Alpha XP utilities collection for Unreal Engine 4.27 and 5.8. Every feature is exposed to Blueprints and C++, it ships with styled HTML documentation, and it is compiled and verified warning-free against clean UE 4.27 and UE 5.8 projects.
Key features
- One call to start the lookup: Get My Public IP
- Result delivered through the On IPAddress Received event (empty string on failure)
- Get Cached IP returns the last received address at any time
- Asynchronous HTTP request, the game thread never blocks
- Configurable service URL and JSON field (Override APIUrl, Override JSONKey) for your
- Uses only the engine's HTTP and Json modules, no extra dependencies
- Small UObject API that is easy to use from Blueprint and C++
Blueprint & C++ API
Callable runs when executed Β· Pure no exec pin, returns a value
| Node | Type | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Get My Public IP | Callable | Starts the public IP lookup. The result is delivered through OnIPAddressReceived. |
| Get Cached IP() β String | Callable | Returns the last received IP address, or an empty string if no response has been received yet. |
| Override API Url(New API Url: String) | Callable | Replaces the lookup service URL. The service must answer with a flat JSON object. |
| Override JSON Key(New Json Key: String) | Callable | Sets the JSON field that holds the IP address in the service response (default "ip"). Works with flat JSON objects only. |
Events & delegates
Bind these in Blueprint (drag off the object β Bind Event) or with AddDynamic in C++.
| Event | Parameters | When it fires |
|---|---|---|
| On IP Address Received | IP (String) | Broadcast when the lookup finishes. The IP is empty if the request failed. |

Good to know
Built and verified warning-free for Unreal Engine 4.27 and 5.8. The lookup needs internet access and by default queries the public ipify service (api.ipify.org); the plugin has no platform restriction, other platforms are supported by the code but not verified by Alpha XP. Developed and maintained by Alpha XP.
