Frequently asked questions

Does it move or rename my upload files?
No. Organization is virtual and uses a native taxonomy. Your /uploads/ tree is left untouched. The exception is files in folders you explicitly mark as Private. Those files are restored to normal public uploads when the folder is made public again or when the plugin is uninstalled.

Will it work with my page builder / theme?
Yes. The folder filter is integrated into the standard WordPress media modal, which is used by Gutenberg, the Classic Editor and many page builders. The FolderPress manager itself runs as a standalone admin application.

What happens to my folders if I deactivate?
Nothing is lost. Folder data remains safely in your database and reappears when you reactivate the plugin. Uninstalling removes FolderPress data without deleting media.

Is the free CDN really free?
Yes. The included image CDN is designed to work without requiring a separate CDN account or API key. For business-critical delivery, you can also configure your own CDN domain or use S3-compatible storage.

Can my clients see files without a WordPress account?
Yes. Share links let you send a file or whole-folder gallery without requiring the recipient to have a WordPress account. You can set an expiry and revoke the link when needed.

What if I lock myself out with 2FA?
A documented file-based emergency recovery switch is available. If you lose access to your normal 2FA method, you can use the recovery procedure to regain access.

Does it slow my site down?
The FolderPress manager loads only on its own admin page. On the front end, URL rewriting is used when CDN or offload functionality is enabled. Optimized images can also reduce image payload sizes.

Multisite?
Per-site activation is supported, with each site maintaining its own library organization. Network-wide shared libraries are planned for a future release.
