BedrockAI
AI-powered gameplay with Amazon Bedrock: NPC conversations with memory, streaming replies, tool calls that trigger game actions, image generation, text embeddings andβ¦
Highlights
All 15 features βBedrockAI brings Amazon Bedrock into Unreal Engine. Give every character a conversation of its own: a system prompt that says who it is, a memory of what the player said, and tools it may ask the game to use - give an item, open a door, start a quest. Replies can stream in piece by piece for typewriter dialogue, and the whole memory can be saved with your save game and restored later.
Create Conversation sets up one dialogue per NPC with its model, temperature, reply length and history limit. Send Message waits for the full reply, Send Message Stream delivers it as it is written. Register game actions with Add Tool and a JSON schema: when the model wants one, On Tool Use lists the calls, your Blueprint decides what really happens, and Submit Tool Results lets the character react in its own words. The history keeps only the most recent messages and never separates a tool call from its result.
Ask and Ask Stream answer one-off prompts such as item descriptions, quest text, names and hints. Generate Image creates a texture from a prompt with Amazon Nova Canvas or Titan Image Generator models and also returns the PNG bytes. Embed Text and Cosine Similarity add vector search over lore, quests and dialogue. Moderate Text checks player names and chat with an Amazon Bedrock guardrail, and the same guardrail can protect every conversation automatically. Invoke Model Raw reaches any Bedrock model through its native JSON API.
You choose the model: any Bedrock model or inference profile that supports the Converse API, per conversation or in the project settings. Players get credentials from an Amazon Cognito identity pool, as guests or signed in through Set Login Token; static keys and the default AWS credential chain are available for development, dedicated servers and tools. Requests run on background worker threads with automatic retries, and every result arrives back on the game thread.
The documentation explains how to enable model access, a least-privilege IAM policy for the identity pool role, and how to keep costs and abuse under control with guardrails, token limits and an optional backend.
BedrockAI is part of the Alpha XP AWS collection for Unreal Engine 4.27 and 5.8. It includes the AWS SDK for C++ prebuilt for Win64, Linux and Android and ships with styled HTML documentation.

Blueprint & C++ API
Every call is reachable from more than one place β pick the entry point that fits your project:
| Class | Type | Nodes | Use it for |
|---|---|---|---|
| BedrockAILibrary | Function library | 10 | Conversations, vector helpers, configuration and identity for BedrockAI. |
| BedrockAIConversation | Object | 5 | One ongoing dialogue with a model, for example the memory of one NPC: model settings, tools and the message history. |
| Async action nodes | Latent Blueprint nodes | 2 | Latent node with success / failure output pins. |
Callable runs when executed Β· Pure no exec pin, returns a value Β· LatentAsync finishes later and fires its outputs
BedrockAI 2
| Node | Type | Available on | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cancel | Async | Async | Stops waiting for this request: none of its output pins fire any more. The request itself may still complete (and be billed) on AWS. |
| Is Finished | Async | Async | True after Cancel was called or the node finished. |
Conversation 6
| Node | Type | Available on | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| Add Tool(Name: String, Description: String, Input Schema Json: String) β Boolean | Callable | Object | Registers a game action the model may call, for example "give_item". Calling it again with the same name replaces the tool. |
| Clear History | Callable | Object | Forgets every message (tools and settings stay). A reply that is still on its way is not added any more. |
| Get History As JSON() β String | Pure | Object | The message history as JSON, for example to save an NPC's memory in a save game. |
| Load History From JSON(Json: String) β Boolean | Callable | Object | Replaces the history with JSON from Get History As JSON. Returns false (and keeps the history) when the JSON is invalid. |
| Get Last Reply() β String | Pure | Object | Text of the model's last message, including text it wrote before a tool call. Empty when it has not answered yet. |
| Create Conversation(Owner: Object, Model Id: String, System Prompt: String) β Bedrock AI Conversation | Callable | Static | Creates a conversation (for example one per NPC) with the settings' default temperature and max tokens. |
Media 1
| Node | Type | Available on | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cosine Similarity(A: Array of Float, B: Array of Float) β Float | Pure | Static | Similarity of two embedding vectors from Embed Text: 1 = same meaning, 0 = unrelated. Returns 0 when the sizes differ. |
Config 3
| Node | Type | Available on | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| Set Region(Region: String) | Callable | Static | Switches the AWS region used by every following request. |
| Set Credential Mode(Mode: Bedrock AI Credential Mode) | Callable | Static | Overrides the credential mode from the project settings at runtime. |
| Is Configured() β Boolean, Problem | Pure | Static | Checks the settings and returns false with a reason when requests cannot work yet. |
Identity 5
| Node | Type | Available on | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| Set Login Token(Provider: String, Token: String) | Callable | Static | Signs the player in to the Cognito identity pool with a token from an identity provider. |
| Clear Login Tokens | Callable | Static | Forgets all login tokens and the cached identity (the player becomes a guest again). |
| Set Static Credentials(Access Key Id: String, Secret Access Key: String, Session Token: String) | Callable | Static | Uses these credentials from now on (Static Keys mode), for example temporary keys handed out by your own backend. |
| Get Identity Id() β String | Pure | Static | The Cognito identity id of this player, empty until credentials were resolved once. |
| Make User Pool Provider Name(Region: String, User Pool Id: String) β String | Pure | Static | Builds the identity-pool login key of a Cognito user pool: cognito-idp.<region>.amazonaws.com/<user pool id>. |

Good to know
Built for Unreal Engine 4.27 and 5.8. Requires an AWS account with Amazon Bedrock and access enabled for the chosen models; Bedrock, Cognito and guardrail usage is billed by AWS. Players' text and the conversation history are sent to Amazon Bedrock in the configured region. The plugin exposes 27 Blueprint nodes. The BedrockAI module is enabled for Win64, Linux and Android; on Linux and Android the SDK uses the engine's libcurl, OpenSSL and certificate store. Developed and maintained by Alpha XP.
